Studebaker of Canada used its status as a Canadian manufacturer to import Volkswagens from Germany while paying a lower duty rate. Studebaker then sold the cars to Volkswagen of Canada for a higher price than what had initially been paid, and made a profit of roughly $150 on each car imported.
